Priority Code:

Fatal application error (or illegal operation)...

This error message is due to a corrupted file. It's a matter of tracking down the specific file causing the problem. Using the following procedure can help you to find the specific file that is damaged and it's location. If this error occurs after the installation of a new book or translation, it's most likely that it is that newly installed book or translation that is the corrupted file. Instead of going through all of the procedures listed below, start with just reinstalling that book or translation to see if it corrects the problem. If it does not, then continue with these troubleshooting tips. Sometimes you can get PocketBible to tell you which file it is that is damaged.

  1. Shut down all applications on your handheld.
  2. Do a soft reset.
  3. Try to open PocketBible. If this works, it will give you the path and name of the file that is damaged. You can then go to that location on your handheld to delete the offending file.
  4. If you receive the exact same error message, continue with the rest of the instructions.
  • If files are installed to a storage card
    1. Shut down all applications on your handheld.
    2. Do a soft reset.
    3. Remove the storage card.
    4. Try PocketBible. If the corrupted file is on the storage card, PocketBible will open. You might receive a message stating that no books were found but it will open.
    5. If PocketBible still does not open:
      1. Go to Start and Programs and open File Explorer
      2. Navigate to My Documents and then Laridian Books.
      3. Tap and hold your stylus on top of the PocketBible file listed and select Delete.
      4. Confirm the deletion and then give PocketBible another try.
      5. If it still fails after deleting the PocketBible file, repeat these same steps but this time, delete other files listed here (except Laridian Data) and test PocketBible after each deletion until it starts to work again. Keep track of what you delete so you know what to reinstall.
      6. If you've deleted everything in the Laridian Books folder except the Laridian Data file and PocketBible still fails then go ahead and delete the Laridian Data file. This file contains your notes and bookmarks so if you delete the file and it corrects the problem then you will need to restore a backup of the file or start over with your notes and bookmarks. A blank file will be created the next time you successfully open PocketBible.
      7. Reinstall the files you've deleted once PocketBible begins working again.
    6. If PocketBible opens with the storage card removed:
      1. Exit PocketBible by tapping the keyboard icon in the lower right corner. Tap CTL + Q to quit (or do a soft reset).
      2. Insert the storage card.
      3. Synch your Pocket PC with the desktop computer so that ActiveSync opens and shows Connected.
      4. Reinstall your books and translations. During the installation process you will be asked if you wish to delete the book before reinstalling. You should select Yes.
  • If files are not installed to a storage card: Reinstall your books and translations. During the installation process you will be asked if you wish to delete the book before reinstalling. You should select Yes.
