Why can't I choose books on the storage card?

If you use Pocket PC 2002/2003 or Windows Mobile 5 then the operating system may not show you all of your installed books. Specifically, books stored in a subfolder of the My Documents folder on the storage card may not be shown. Laridian stores its books and Bibles in the My Documents \ Laridian Books folder, whether in main memory or storage card. Under certain conditions, a Pocket PC 2002/2003 or Windows Mobile 5 device may not find the files on a storage card. DailyReader is affected by this flaw. Your other programs, such as Pocket Word, are also affected.

We have discussed the problem with Microsoft, and discovered that this is a feature, not a problem. However, since it looks like a problem to us, we discussed this further and have these solutions to offer.

The Best Solution for Pocket PC 2002/2003:
Look for a hidden file named ignore_my_docs in the root folder of the storage card.

  1. Double-click My Computer.
  2. Select Tools (or View) and Folder Options.
  3. Select the View tab.
  4. Look for Hidden Files and put the dot in front of Show all files.
  5. Click OK and exit My Computer.
  6. Connect your Pocket PC to your PC.
  7. Start ActiveSync (it may start automatically upon connection).
  8. Select the Explore button at the top of ActiveSync.
  9. Navigate to the root directory of your storage card.
  10. Delete the file named ignore_my_docs.
If the hidden file named ignore_my_docs is present, then the operating system will ignore subfolders in the My Documents folder. By deleting this file, you instruct the operating system that you want to see these files.

If That Doesn't Work or You Are Using Windows Mobile 5
Move the books that you want to use in DailyReader from the My Documents \ Laridian Books folder to a new folder called Laridian Books in the root folder of the storage card (i.e. not in any folder). Move all of the books (including your Bible) that you want to use with DailyReader. You can use File Explorer on your Pocket PC or the ActiveSync Explore option to move (cut then paste) the files.

If All Else Fails
Install the books that you want to use with DailyReader into your main memory, rather than the storage card.
