Error in CE Application Manager (CEAppMgr).

The CE Application Manager is a part of your CE Services or Microsoft ActiveSync software. The first thing to try when getting an error message with the CE Application Manager is to just reboot your computer with Start, Shut Down, and Restart. Remove your handheld from the connector while this is done. Once the reboot is complete, synch back up, make sure that ActiveSync shows Connected and try the installation again. Secondly, make sure that your ActiveSync connection is not being connected as Guest. It needs to connect under the correct user name for that Pocket PC or Windows CE handheld device. If these suggestions fail, some customers have reported that this problem is corrected when they download and install the latest version of ActiveSync from Microsoft. Microsoft provides ActiveSync as a free download from the Pocket PC Web site, www.pocketpc.com. Do a search for ActiveSync once you get to the website. Don't forget to install the new ActiveSync after you download it! If the newest version of ActiveSync doesn't correct the problem, then it will be necessary to complete the installation manually. It's not difficult, just different. Manual Installation Instructions Before starting, you will need to know two items of information:

  1. The version of Windows CE that your device is using
  2. The type of processor contained in your device.
You can learn this information in one of the following ways.
  • If you have an HPC or HPC Professional, select Start > Settings > Control Panel > System.
  • If you have a Palm-size PC (PPC), select Start > Settings > System.
  • If you have a Pocket PC, select Start > Settings, then select the System tab, then select About.
To complete the installation:
  1. Right-click the Start menu on your desktop computer and select Explore.
  2. Browse to the ActiveSync folder. On our computers, this is at "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync", but of course, you may have installed to a different drive or folder. This folder will contain additional folders for programs that have been installed.
  3. Open the folder for the product that you are trying to install now (such as Laridian PocketBible or DailyReader).
  4. Inside that folder will be several files. Locate the file that matches your processor and version number. For example:
    • if you are installing to a CE 2.0 device that uses an SH3 processor, choose the file which has "200" and "sh3" in the name.
    • If you are installing to an HPC device using CE 2.11 and an SH4 processor, choose the file including "211H" and "sh4" in the name. (Note that the "H" and "P" are used to distinguish Hand-held PCs from Palm-size PCs.)
    • If you are installing to a Pocket PC and it's a fairly modern Pocket PC (less than a year old) then the file you will most likely need to select is PocketBible.ARM.cab (you may or may not see "cab" at the end of the file name).
  5. Right-click the appropriate file name and select Copy. Minimize your Explorer window.
  6. Select the Explore button in ActiveSync. Browse to the \Windows\Start Menu folder on your device. If you can't find this folder, go to \Windows\Programs.
  7. With that folder open, select Edit and Paste in ActiveSync. The file will copy over.
  8. On your device, choose Start and then the file that you just copied (or Start > Programs then the file you just copied). The installation will start on the device. When it is complete, the file that you copied will be automatically deleted. You should now see an icon under Programs for the application you've just installed.
