Description

The Holman Illustrated Bible Commentary is a comprehensive yet concise resource for Bible teachers, pastors, and any student of the Bible. From Genesis to Revelation, it provides the reader with essential information and insight that can be a clarifying touch point at every stage of preparing to teach or preach.

For each book of the Bible, an introductory section gives an overview that introduces the circumstances of writing, the author, background, message and purpose, its contribution to the Bible, and its structure. The commentary itself is presented as an outline of the book.

The commentary illuminates each verse in the Bible by focusing on a few verses at a time. The commentary is illustrated with photos and other graphics that bring the world of each Bible book to life for the reader. Also, each book of the Bible includes a substantial bibliography that enables the reader to explore more deeply.

Some comments are intended to shed light on difficult passages. Some are intended to suggest applications that might not occur to a Bible reader. Others are intended to bring to bear specialized knowledge from language studies, archaeology, or history that expands the meaning of the verse or verses. All the comments serve to help the Bible reader get the most from his or her reading experience.

Every verse or group of verses is commented on by expert interpreters. Those verses that escaped comment in the original edition due to space limitations have been included in this revised edition, with comments provided by E. Ray Clendenen. We think you'll find that this resource will become a basic staple of your Bible study resources, whether you teach the scriptures or just want to understand them better for yourself.
