How do I use my Study Bible or other reference book?

MyBible 4 and later versions support study Bibles and reference books. Previous versions of MyBible do not offer that option.

The MyBible User Guide will provide you with extensive information on how to get full use of your Bibles and books. To access the User Guide on a Windows computer, go to Start > Programs > Laridian > MyBible 4 (or later) > User Guide. On a Mac computer, the file is located in the mbsetup folder. To check your version of MyBible, tap Options and About MyBible when you're in the application. If it doesn't show MyBible 4.x (or later) at the top (x being any revision number), then you're not using version 4 or later. Previous versions will have a "build" or "revision" number in the bottom corner so if you have a "build" or "revision" number at the bottom then you're using either MyBible 2 or MyBible 3.

MyBible is the reader that allows you to access your various books. Your book may be a Bible, a Study Bible, a Commentary, a Dictionary, or something else. MyBible allows you to open a two or three window view. You may use this feature to view two or three Bibles at the same time, two Bibles and a reference book or a Bible and one to two reference books at the same time. It's your choice.

  1. Open your Bible of choice in the top window.
  2. Select your additional books by tapping the Tap to open book in the lower left corner of MyBible or by selecting Options and Split.
  3. Select the second book and it will open. You are now in a two book view.
  4. Do the same thing for the third book if wanted. Keep in mind that the more windows you have open, the less text you will have to read. If you have 2-3 windows open, you can synchronize them so that they move together.
  5. Enter a Graffiti "s" or tap Options, Synchronization. This is a toggle so when you no longer want to synchronize the windows, do the same thing to turn the feature off.

There are a few items that are important to understand about the synchronization process.

  • The books will always synchronize to the top window.
  • Synchronization is either on or off. If it's on, all three windows (if applicable) will synchronize. You can't turn it on for the top two windows and off for the third window.
  • The book will not synchronize if the other book doesn't have information on that verse. For example, the Ryrie Study Bible does not have commentary information about every verse in the Bible. So if you go to a location in the Bible which does not have any commentary information then nothing will move in the window containing that commentary.
  • Some books, by the nature of the book, won't synchronize. For example, Nave's Topical Bible is not arranged by verse. It's arranged by topic. Therefore, it can't track with a Bible that is arranged by verse.
To close a second or third window that you currently have open, tap the down arrow in the upper left corner of that window. The select Close. You will find additional functions in that same drop down menu. Refer to the MyBible 4 User Guide for more information. To get to the Table of Contents of a particular reference book or commentary:
  1. Tap the down arrow in the upper left corner of the book window.
  2. Select the second Change....
  3. Tap Back until you can't go back any further. This will be your full Table of Contents. Use the arrows on the right to scroll up or down the list. Tap the + to expand a tree.

There is an additional feature available with MyBible 5 that is a very nice addition.  It allows you to ZOOM a book full screen.  For example, if you have a commentary or reference book open in one of the bottom two windows, just tap the down arrow in the upper-left corner of that window and select ZOOM.  You will then have your book full screen so that you have more screen space on which to read that book.

This article includes the basics of how to use your commentary or reference book with MyBible 4 and 5. For more detailed information, please review the MyBible 4 or 5 User Guide (instructions above).
