Priority Code:

One or more files need to be installed on extension card.

This error occurs most often when trying to install a Palm OS product when there is more than one username in the Palm Desktop software. There are several things that you can try to resolve this:

  • Remove the user names that are no longer valid.
    1. Open Palm Desktop on the desktop PC
    2. Click Tools and Users
    3. Delete the users no longer being used
    4. Exit and try running the setup again.
  • Verify that you have the install option turned on for storage cards under the correct user name.
    1. Open Palm Desktop on the desktop PC
    2. Click HotSync and Custom
    3. Make sure the correct user name is selected at the top.
    4. Scroll to the bottom and look for Install to card. Make sure it shows Enabled.
    5. Exit and try running the setup again if a change was made.
  • If you have user names that you are not ready to delete and continue to have this installation error:
    1. Run the setup again. When you get to the screen in which the usernames are listed, do not select or deselect any names. Whatever is selected, even if it's not the correct username, leave it as is.
    2. Complete the setup and click Finish at the end.
    3. On your desktop computer, click Start -> Search -> For Files or Folders -> All Files or Folders.
    4. Enter INSTAPP.EXE where you see the flashing cursor.
    5. The Look in location should show the C drive or all drives.
    6. Click Search.
    7. When the file is found, double-click the file. Install Tool will open.
    8. It will probably default to the incorrect username. Remove the files listed.
    9. Change the username to the correct name for this installation.
    10. Click ADD.
    11. For "Look In" at the top, click the down arrow and select the C drive.
    12. Double-click Program Files and then Laridian. You will see folders listed for each Laridian product for which you've run the setup procedure.
    13. Open the folder for the first product which you wish to install to your handheld.
    14. Select all of the files in the folder and click Open. You will see the files listed in Install Tool.
    15. If you have more files that you need to install to your handheld, click ADD, go back to the Laridian folder, and continue with the next sub-folder under Laridian.
    16. When done adding all of the files you wish to install to your handheld, click Done.
    17. HotSync and the files will transfer.

If you do NOT have more than one username and you are experiencing this error message, or the solutions listed above do not work for you, send an email to palmsupport@laridian.com explaining what you've tried and request further assistance. We may need to send you the files in a different format.
