How do I install the iPocketBible text files to my iPod (Mac)?

NOTE: If you own an iPhone or iPod Touch, you cannot install the text files. They are not compatible with your type of device. For information on the products that are compatible with your type of device go to www.laridian.com. Select iPhone and iPod Touch.

For all other iPods:

We currently offer the New Living Translation (NLT) and The Message (MSG) Bibles for use on an iPod. For simplicity purposes, the following instructions refer to the NLT. If you own The Message, substitute the letters MSG in the instructions below anywhere you see NLT.

If you download the text files from your Laridian account, you need to extract the text files from the downloaded file, iPocketBibleNLT.zip.

If you own a CD set or a DVD, put the first disk in the drive and you will find the files you need listed on the root drive and under the folders labeled New Testament and Old Testament.

  1. 1. Connect your iPod and open iTunes
  2. On the left you will see Device with the name of your iPod. Select it. You will see new information appear on the right.
  3. The Summary tab will already be selected for you. On this Summary tab, under Options, put a check mark in “Enable disk use.” and click APPLY.
  4. Your iPod will now show up as a hard drive. You can get to it by double clicking the iPod icon from your desktop.
  5. Double click the Notes folder.
  6. Create a new folder in the Notes folder called NLT Data (or MSG Data).
  7. Open up a window showing the contents of the files you extracted from the iPocketBibleNLT.zip file (download) or the files from the first disk if using a CD set or DVD.
  8. Copy the files listed below for the books of the Bible you want on your iPod.
  9. Repeat these steps to copy all the files you want to use onto your iPod (up to but not exceeding 1,000 files). Your iPod will only allow you to display 1,000 Notes. It is possible to copy more than 1,000 files into the Notes folder, but the iPod will only display the first 1,000. If you do not stay within that 1000 note limitation of your iPod then it will not function properly.
  10. The text files will be copied to your iPod. You will need to “Eject” your iPod. (You can, if you wish, go back to the Preferences and uncheck “Enable disk use.” This will allow you to remove the iPod without Ejecting it first. You will need to re-check this if you wish to make changes to the files on your iPod.)
  11. To access the notes on the iPod select Extras, Notes, NLT Data. The first time you select Notes after this installation, it may take awhile for the notes to load.
