Synchronize your personal data between PocketBible and MyBible
programs running on different computer devices!
Contents:
Introduction
The personal data that you create with PocketBible — such as personal
notes, highlighted passages, and bookmarks — can be shared between
your PocketBible programs that are running on different computer devices.
Additionally, your personal notes and bookmarks can be shared between
PocketBible and MyBible. (MyBible highlights cannot be shared.)
We call this sharing “synchronization.” Your personal data is
synchronized between PocketBible programs. Synchronization assures that the
same data is present in both places.
Imagine that a master copy of your data is maintained. When any version of
PocketBible is synchronized with that master copy, then the master copy is
updated to include all changes that you've made since the last time you
synchronized. As you synchronize your other PocketBible programs with the
master copy, these changes will be added to the device, and changes on the
device are added to the master copy. Thus, as you perform synchronizations,
the same data can appear in all of your versions of PocketBible, and you
can safely make changes in any of your versions of PocketBible, knowing
that when you next synchronize, your changes will be reflected in the
master copy.
This master copy of your data is maintained at the Laridian iPocketBible.com
Internet server. The iPocketBible.com Internet server can be synchronized
directly to PocketBible for Windows, for the iPhone or iPod Touch, and the
iPad. Synchronization to PocketBible for Windows Mobile and MyBible for
Palm OS occur through the PocketBible for Windows program.
(You can also think of PocketBible for Windows being the master copy
with respect to PocketBible for Windows Mobile and MyBible for Palm OS.)
This is illustrated in the following diagram.
Each line in this diagram represents a synchronization. So,
this diagram makes it clear how to move data from one device to another.
For instance, if you want to share data between PocketBible for Windows and
PocketBible on your iPhone, you will sync through iPocketBible.com. If you
want to synchronize personal data between your iPhone and your iPad, you'll
sync through iPocketBible.com. In this example, it helps to think of
iPocketBible.com as maintaining that “master copy” of the
data that we'd talked about earlier.
On the other hand, if you want to share personal data between your Windows
PC and your Windows Mobile Phone, you won't use iPocketBible.com at all.
You'll sync these two devices directly to one another.
As a final example, if you want to synchronize your personal data between
a Windows Mobile Phone and and and iPhone, you'll first need to
synchronize your Windows Mobile Phone to PocketBible for Windows, then
synchronize to iPocketBible.com and finally synchronize to PocketBible
on your iPhone. You'd then do the opposite to move data from your
iPhone back to your Windows Mobile Phone.

An Important Note About Restoring Backups
Once you begin synchronizing data between PocketBible
for Windows and another device, then you need to be careful if you ever
revert to a backup of your data. You cannot simply restore a backup
of your data on your Windows PC, Palm OS handheld, or Windows Mobile device if
you plan to continue synchronizing that device with another.
You must also reset the synchronization history so that the next synchronization
will correctly recognize that you've installed "old" data. Synchronization history
can be easily reset using PocketBible for Windows 1.012 or newer. Choose
Edit > Synchronize Personal Data > Reset Synchronization History whenever
you replace your personal data with a backup. If you are using a version of
PocketBible for Windows prior to version 1.012, we recommend that you update
to the latest revision which will provide this option.
