Laridian's No-nonsense License Agreement

We're not lawyers and neither are most of you. By installing this software, you agree to the following no-nonsense agreement.

You understand that you're not purchasing any rights in the software itself but rather a license to use the software on one and only one computer. Additional installations require the purchase of additional copies of the program and/or data files.

You agree not to give away, sell or otherwise transfer copies of this program or its associated data files to any other party for any reason. When you upgrade the program or the data files, your license to use the older versions terminates. You cannot legally give old copies of the program away.

The previous paragraph is not intended to prevent you from transfering your ownership of your single copy of the program to another individual, as long as you destroy all your copies of the program and/or data and the new owner agrees with the terms of this agreement and notifies Laridian of the transfer of ownership.

We acknowledge your right to keep a backup copy of these files for archival purposes only.

You agree that using software of any kind from any company is a risky activity. You will not hold us liable for any loss of time, money, data files, etc. that might be caused by using this program. This is not to say that we expect this to happen; just that you're responsible for backing up your important files and operating your computer with care. Our obligation to you under any and all circumstances is limited to replacing products you've purchased from us that become damaged or lost because of something we did, or refunding your purchase price at our discretion.

Memorize! organizes your list of verses into collections. Each collection is stored in a database file on your Pocket PC, and contains the unique list of categories and verses. You can organize your verses within a collection by assigning categories to each verse. However, you can also apply a broader organization by creating different collections for different verses.

For instance, you may want to organize your verses by topic. you could create one collection of verses related to salvation and another collection related to character qualities, and so forth.

Or, you could create a collection for different sources of verses. If you participate in a discipleship group that encourages memorization of specific verse, you could create a collection for those verses.

Memorize! does not impose a specific memorization and review method upon you, but rather allows you to adapt the program to meet your needs. Use the Categories feature to configure your verses to your method and preferences. Here are some suggestions.

  1. Do you want to work on a small number of verses everyday, and review a different set of verses every day? Add a small number of verses to the 'Memorize' category. Then add additional categories, such as 'Monday Review', 'Tuesday Review', and so forth. As a verse is memorized, move it to one of these review categories. Try to keep the number of verses in each category roughly equal.
  2. Do you want to dedicate a larger amount of time to reviewing verses that you've already learned, but do it less often? Maintain only one 'Review' category.
  3. Do you want to memorize different verses on each day of the week? Create additional categories, such as 'Monday Memory', 'Tuesday Memory', and so forth.
  4. Do you want to distinguish between verses that you are working on, verses that you have recently learned (and therefore need to review more often), and verses that you know very well? Then use categories such as 'Memorizing', 'Daily Review', 'Weekly Review', and 'Monthly Review'.

These are just some ideas of the many ways that you can use the Categories to help you organize your Scripture memory project.

Remember, you can also use different collections to provide further organization. For more information on collections, refer to creating a new collection of verses.

If you use Laridian's PocketBible program, then you can import the text of the verses that you want to memorize. This is not only much quicker than typing the verse yourself, it is more accurate as well!

To import a verse from a PocketBible Bible:

  1. Select 'Edit | Add' to add a new verse.
  2. Enter the Bible reference ("John 3:16") for the verse that you want to memorize.
  3. Enter the Bible translation ("NIV") that you want to use, or select the translation from the list of available choices. Of course, this Bible translation must be installed.
  4. Press the 'Import' button.

Memorize! recognizes most standard abbreviations for the books of the Bible.

Hint: you don't actually need to have the PocketBible program installed. You merely need to have one or more PocketBible Bibles installed.

To backup your collection:

There are two ways to make a backup of your collection. We recommend option 2 below.

  1. Your collection is stored in a file that contains three Windows CE databases. You can make a simple backup simply by keeping a copy of this file in a safe place. Exit Memorize!, then copy the file from your Pocket PC to your PC. If ActiveSync or other synchronization software asks to convert the file, don't let it! If your collection becomes damaged or corrupted, you should be able to copy the file from your PC back to your Pocket PC. There is one significant disadvantage to this method of backing up your data: the format of the collection file may be specific to a particular version of Windows CE. That is, if the collection was created on a Pocket PC, it may not work on a Handheld PC. Further, it may not work on future Windows CE computers. In other words, your backup may work for this device, but not for the next device that you use. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you use the backup method discussed below.
  2. Choose 'Backup' from the menu to export your collection into a data file that can be safely copied to your PC and to other Windows CE handhelds. When you choose 'Backup', you will be prompted to enter the name of the backup file to create. After the backup is complete, copy the new backup file to your PC for safekeeping. Do not convert the file while copying it to your PC.

  2. Select 'Restore' from the menu.
  3. You'll first be prompted to select the file that contains the backup information that you want to restore.
  4. Then you'll be prompted to enter the name of a new collection. Items from your backup file will be added to this new collection.

To close Memorize!

Microsoft recommends that you let Windows CE control what programs are active or inactive in memory. Some people aren't comfortable with that, so we provide a few additional ways to exit Memorize!:

Note that some Pocket PC models include utility software that can be used to shut down applications. These utilities typically do not close the selected program in the normal manner. Instead, the utility typically just "kills" the program by erasing it from memory. This is not the best way to close a program. Instead, we recommend that you use the methods discussed above.

How many items can I store?

Theoretically, Memorize! can store every verse in the Bible; however, practically, you won't want to store that many items! As you store more items in your collection, the physical size of the collection will grow and it will take Memorize! longer to display your information. If you find that Memorize! is becoming sluggish, consider starting a new collection. More...

Advanced Options

It is not necessary to change any of the settings on this page for the normal operation of the program.

Add Exit to menu. Pocket PC and Palm-size PC applications are not supposed to provide any way for the user to "exit" or close the program. But we've found that most users find this unacceptable. If you prefer to not see an Exit option, uncheck this box. If you prefer to see an Exit option, check this box to add Exit to the Edit menu the next time you run the program. More...

Note that you may need to close Memorize! before any changes take effect. To exit Memorize! (and most other Pocket PC applications), tap the keyboard button and enter Ctrl+Q while the application you want to close is running.
